Kindness Runs Deep Along With an Oasis of Warmth

Happy Sunday! Today, I just wanted to take time to send out little blog hugs to a few of the many wonderful ladies who have been so kind and supportive of me since I opened my Etsy shop and began blogging. First on my list is Karin Grow....the very first Etsian to convo me with greetings and well wishes. A sweet person and a marvelous Artist! Her paintings are just glorious!... I love the Chickadees she paints. They are so darling! And I love what, in my view, is a kind of South Pacific charm she brings to her work. Karin is celebrating two years as an Etsy seller!!

Check out her shop here:

Just Because.....A Little Something for Someone You Love

What a lovely surprise I received this evening! One of my wonderful sisters from UWIB, Unique Women in Business Team,  included me in her Etsy Treasury!! Thanks so much Bridget!! Bridget's Etsy shop is Japip.

She has really darling Handmade accessories in her shop. I recently bought the above tote as a ' just because' surprise for my daughter. Thrilling! Consider doing a little something for someone you  love ' just because'. We all need that from time to time. And what better way to do that, than to buy a little sweet something from each other! :)

She included my DragonFly Dance Bracelet set in the Treasury.

They are wonderful people........ It was a little something that I did for myself lately, and a wise decision to join their team.... 'just because'.

Creativity- Bridging the Gap Between Ourselves and What Inspires Us

I surely hope that it has been a weekend of whatever you had hoped it to be!!..... fun, relaxation, adventure, accomplishment...... Whatever the case, we all need our time of being away from the agendas of others with time to ourselves. :)

We all need time to enjoy the activities that make us happy. And beyond that, we also need to just have that  'Amen' or 'Aum' time.......like they speak of in Religion.... For me it is the time that I take to be introspective and renew that sense of self, and creativity within myself...that time I take to better understand what drives my creative self.

It has been a busy time for me lately. Not just time spent on my Etsy shop, or creative pursuits for that matter. But my day job has required long hours of overtime. Lots of work to be done. Nevertheless, I don't really mind. My approach to work has always been that I need to feel that I'm giving it my all and that I'm performing to the utmost. And, of course, I totally enjoy any time I spend on making my jewelry.  And I have been working on an embroidery project that I designed, as well as doing photographic research for a group of paintings that I'm planning! So work wise, and art-wise..... I've got it covered!

This weekend was my time to just back away from work and back off the art projects and just relax and enjoy myself.....In my travels, I happened on the Suncoast Arts Fest, and had a wonderfully inspiring time walking around enjoying  the fabulous creativity of the participating Artists. I spent some time watching a few beautiful Indie films, with inspiring stories. And I spent time enjoying the nature that speaks to me and pervades most everything that I do.

As I was driving around, I noticed the deciduous trees we have in Florida. The extremely cold snaps of weather that we have had really did a number on their foliage. Many are standing bare this year. Other more mild years they might have retained some of their foliage. But it got me to thinking of that need for renewal that we all have. And yes, even the trees, I imagine are driven by nature to renew. To shed some of the old in Autumn and Winter, and create some of the new when their tender buds and leaves emerge. It's their 'Amen' or 'Aum' time that will lead them to a dazzling display of beauty once their renewal is manifested.

It is our creativity that bridges the gap between ourselves and what inspires us. Here's to inspiration and renewal ... on our path to creativity! I hope that your path leads you to a dazzling display of beauty! Make it a great week!

Moving Past the Economic Riptides

I was looking over some wonderful photos, of the beaches we’ve been to, this morning. I had taken them on our vacations and weekend excursions. I love going to the beach! It’s so inspiring, relaxing and renewing to just enjoy the surf, collect shells, walk with the sand between my toes. I’m so looking forward to Summer! I’ve resolved to get in the car more often to go and enjoy what is practically in my own back yard!

Anyway…. I started thinking about how the Ocean relates to the Economic trials that have come to bear on so many people. I have been very lucky. Things have gotten tighter for us, …..but nowhere near the devastation that I see going on around me. So many people losing their homes, jobs, businesses…… having their livelihood swept out from under them. I go in to stores and there is practically no one there. Less people in restaurants. I’ve also been noticing more fellow Etsians out on marketing websites lately- and I’m talking established sellers….. so, if they have been impacted, that doesn’t bode very well for a fledgling like me. But I totally believe that what the economic ‘tide’ takes out, it will again bring back. And if we are resilient and focused on pursuing what we love, a life full of treasures will come ashore.

Which leads me to the wisdom of William Shakespeare. I’ll explain. When I was growing up, my family had very little. But what we lacked in money, we made up for in hard work, resourcefulness and a positive attitude. As a teenager, I had committed to memory, a Shakespearean sonnet that really seemed to speak to how I was feeling about my life. It underscored my belief that there would be a better place and better life for me someday. All I had to do was work for it, pursue it and believe in myself. And I have to say… my life has played out just as I had wanted it to. My source of inspiration was Sonnet 56. For me, it conjures up the wonderful and hopeful vision of the Summer and the ocean and what life can be!

Sweet love, renew thy force; be it not said

Thy edge should blunter be than appetite,

Which but to-day by feeding is allay'd,

To-morrow sharpened in his former might:

So, love, be thou, although to-day thou fill

Thy hungry eyes, even till they wink with fullness,

To-morrow see again, and do not kill

The spirit of love, with a perpetual dullness.

Let this sad interim like the ocean be

Which parts the shore, where two contracted new

Come daily to the banks, that when they see

Return of love, more blest may be the view;

As call it winter, which being full of care,

Makes summer's welcome, thrice more wished, more rare.

I know that right now, for many…it seems like winter, and it looks like the tide will never come back to shore. But I’m proof that if you hold on long enough, believe in yourself, and stay focused on what you want to accomplish and what you love; the summer days at the beach will come and the tide will roll in with a lifetime of treasures. Hang in there. We’ll be basking in the sun in no time!

History of Heart/ Growing a Cherished Relationship

This morning I was doing a little housework and paused to look over a book that I had collected many years ago. I recently, brought out my copy of  History of Art, along with other titles that I had stored away. I did this so that I could enjoy them more readily.
Little did I know that I would uncover a little treasure inside one of my books. I evidently had tucked away little pieces of my daughter's artwork; sweet renderings she created for her Mommy when she was a little girl. So, this morning, I was happily reminded of the most lovely 'flower' in my 'garden', my daughter, Aubrey. Even though she is a grown woman now, with a life of her own, I will always cherish our history together and I will make it a point to continue to grow our relationship as mother and daughter.

In Celebration of So-Called Weeds

Ha!! No my title isn’t a typo…..You would think that a garden enthusiast would be adverse to weeds….. But…. it’s about something that I have incorporated into my approach to life. I like to view my life as a glorious ever changing, ever growing garden. And one thing that I have learned in my years of ‘gardening’ is that even the so-called weeds of life have distinct value and can be every bit as beautiful as anything else you might encounter along life’s way. Would it surprise anyone to know that some of the ‘garden’ motif that I have shot my Etsy shop pics with are actually weeds? Truly……..

My point is that you can find beauty and value in everything , in every place and in everyone. All it takes is to stop along life’s path and be certain to take a closer look at the people and places and things that you encounter. It enriches your life to pay attention to the so-called weeds….because they really aren’t weeds after all… They are so much more…and so important to living a wonderful life in tune with what is around you.
