Let the Holiday Orgy Begin!

Can I do two postings in one day?  Just wanted to share something on a lighter note......

Okay…… Let me clarify the meaning of my title!! :P I’m talking about my very favorite Christmas pastime- Baking!! Let the Christmas Baking orgy begin! First up….. Almond sugar cookies. Tomorrow, Chocolate chip/Oatmeal/Raisin cookies, Anise cookies, Walnut holiday roll (my grandma’s recipe) and Apricot and Raspberry filled Spoon mountain cookies. I love to take recipes and just make them into my own….by adding my own ingredients or special touches…… it makes for creative fun…….and for great noshing!! No complaints at the GardenVibe household- other than we’ll have to get ourselves in gear at the gym, when the crumbs settle. And….after all, ….oats, fruits, and nuts are good for you. I’m a Nurse…..I know these things….. never mind that they’re wrapped in sugar and butter and chocolate and……. : o

I hope that you all enjoy a beautiful holiday season…. With lots of fun, laughter, great food, and most importantly, with loved ones at your side and happiness in your hearts.

Year’s End, New Beginning

Reflecting back on this past year and realizing that we are almost at year’s end…… I find myself feeling very happy with where this past year has taken me. Particularly since I find myself at the beginning of a renewed sense of who I am and what brings happiness to my life. I so totally admire all of the talented people I have been meeting in my travels as a new Etsian. Especially the young Artists who have so much belief in themselves and their creative abilities. They are pursuing their dream of living an Artist’s life, like a flower that opens when it sees the light. They are an inspiration to me. I’m a late bloomer, so to speak…….It has taken me a long time to come out of the dark, and believe in my abilities. But, perhaps since my roots are well established, with a little nurturing, I’ll grow to my greatest potential. I’m finally seeing the light, and I’m bloomin’ betting on me! The sunset always leads to a new sunrise……

The Celebrated Mrs.Crane

Sandford and Hillary Crane paid a visit the other afternoon. Her feathers were pretty well ruffled over something. I'm guessing that perhaps she was a tad anxious over all the Christmas preparation. Probably wants Sandford to get her a little GardenVibe bling for the holiday- so she was letting him know in no uncertain terms! ;) Nevertheless, it is always a pleasure to see them. So very inspiring to see how they partner with each other, even though they bicker from time to time. The love IS there!

In honor of my feathered friends I created a lovely Bracelet set, that I have posted in my Etsy shoppe ......

Maybe that will get Sandford off his tail to get his girl something pretty for Christmas. :)  She gets a little fiesty sometimes, but she's still soooo worth it!!

Santa is in the Garden!!

Best wishes to the many lovely people I have been meeting in my efforts to market my Etsy shop! I hope that this holiday season is proving to be fruitful for all of you. It has been slow going for me, but not really unexpected, being a little sprout in the great garden of e-commerce. Nevertheless, I am having such a rewarding time getting to know fellow artisans, networking and nurturing my fledgling business.

In the spirit of nurturing, because every great garden needs that..... I posted a  Treasury out on Etsy today to thank just a few of the wonderful people I have met along the path of promoting my shoppe. The link to the Treasury I curated is :

I had so much fun putting  this Treasury together. Etsy has such a rich, diverse pool of talented artists. It is an honor and humbling for me to even place myself among them. I plan to do more Treasurys in the future to help in my own small way, honor and celebrate the beautiful works of the wonderful people I'm having the pleasure to get to know.  Buy handmade this year, as Santa is surely in the Garden and the Etsy Elves have created wonderful items that no machine or assembly line could ever rival !!

We can all be a 'Pillar'

Ah yes! Nothing like a good old fashioned Black Friday and Cyber Monday to make me feel like a tiny little 'pillar' in the grand forest of e-commerce! As this holiday shopping season kicks off,  I thought back to a fuzzy little caterpillar I took a picture of in the forest not long ago. And I'm reminded that, like her,  as long as I'm aware of my own vantage point and embrace what I can become......then in the interim, I can be a pillar of strength and that big old forest seems much less daunting...... :) My butterfly days are ahead of me...... yours can be too!!

Photosynthesis as a Catalyst to Growth

This past week, I have spent some of my time, pursuing marketing strategies for my Etsy shop. And again, not being a business person, I simply began as any new ‘seedling’ would and just followed the light so to speak. Reading other blogs and accounts of what has worked for others, has led me to some very enriching sources of advertisement.

The responses that I have received from my marketing endeavors have run the gamut from no response to an automated ‘thank you for your submission’ to a ‘rainfall’ of encouragement and warm wishes from other people who are just like myself- tending to their own ‘gardens’, hoping for growth of their own lives and ultimately, self expression .

Photosynthesis by definition is a process in green plants and certain organisms by which carbohydrates (otherwise known as sugars) are synthesized from carbon dioxide and water using light as an energy source. Most forms of photosynthesis release oxygen as a byproduct. That’s the ‘ automated’ definition.

The human definition is that I can say that the sun has surely shown on me this week as I have made efforts to market my fledgling business- like a sprout reaching for the sun……and remarkably, people have been there for me, with such an outpouring of warmth, kindness, wisdom and support . I haven’t sold a thing yet….but I feel energized by some of the responses that I have received. And I am so very grateful for it. Human caring, kindness and support, likened to a kind of photosynthesis for me, is my catalyst for growth.

In the Macroeconomic sense, when the big economic ‘garden’ goes into upheaval and gets dug up, the survivors will be the little seedlings like you and me; Clinging to the things that enrich our lives. And we’ll be together, pursuing our passions, and supporting each other’s efforts- growing, flourishing, and blooming in our ‘gardens’…….. Let’s all dig in our roots, shine our support on each other and simply grow……….

Perspective in the Garden of Living

This morning I checked my e-mail and was led to a blog that perfectly framed for me the importance of all of us growing to our greatest potential in the ' Garden' that we are planted in. I have been doing a little bit of marketing to get my shoppe on Etsy going. Believe me when I say that I am not really a business woman at the core of me, so I have not relished having to upload pictures to websites and perpetually describe my craft so that my shoppe can take root. I'm an RN by day and I like to think a nurturing person. I have loved caring for other people in my years as a nurse. Watching them return to wellness and the way they would look at me after I cared for them, was way beyond any paycheck I ever earned. I signed on with LinkReferral to network with other Artisans such as myself. And this morning I reached the blog of a woman who is battling advanced Ovarian Cancer. Her blog is the raw detailing of what I have shared with so many of my patients. And I would encourage anyone who is not adverse to a raw detailing of what it is to battle cancer to visit her blog- ShoppingKharma.blogspot. A warning that her content is not for everyone, and there are some things in her blog which might not be acceptable to everyone. But, nevertheless, a huge reminder to me to maintain my perspective on what is really important as I pursue this dream of mine that I had let go of so many years ago. And so, as I go forward with my endeavor to be true to the artist in me, my blog will be more about living. Less about selling . More about the things that bring happiness to my life, like hugging my husband, gardening and smelling the flowers I've grown; baking and enjoying the taste amd scent of what I made; sewing , drawing, and yes, crafting and enjoying the loveliness that creativity brings. And I will also enjoy to the fullest the remarkable people that I am meeting in my travels as I market my shop. Bloom where you are planted. Words were never more true.

I had two lovely visitors at my door this morning! Mr. and Mrs. Crane stopped by for a little something..... So, suffice it to say, I offered them my hospitality. I love birds coming to my garden and love it when the Sandhill Cranes come around! I get so much joy from seeing them! What would a garden be if it is not enjoyed and shared?!!

Breaking Ground

Well, I've done it...I've broken new ground and opened up my Etsy shoppe yesterday! I'm really excited about it. It feels great to be at the precipice of becoming a part of the Etsy community of artisans.....I'm so glad to be a part of people who are creative and appreciate all of the possibilities that are within themselves! I'm glad to have taken the leap of faith into my proverbial garden bed of creativity. The light is just breaking for me... and my work is sprouting....I've broken ground........ :)

Sewing the seeds

Worked on two new necklaces last evening. I have a number of necklaces made to launch my Etsy shop that are all inspired by something that I have either seen or experienced in my life's travels. The idea of someone else purchasing one of my creations is exciting, but the idea of someone else connecting with the vibe or essence of the necklace is almost beyond words for me...Creating for me is like being able to speak from my soul......

A Budding Blog

This blog is my GardenVibe, if you will.... and our place to celebrate beautiful things... in nature, in our gardens and about ourselves that keep us inspired and hopeful in life. I have spent many hours roaming outdoors with my sketch pads, hiking forests, walking beaches, planting and growing my garden. So much happiness has been derived from the simple smell of flowers, spicy fall leaves, fresh rain; the sweet/tart taste of fruit, the earthiness of nuts; the foamy feel of ocean waves tickling my feet, sand between my toes, silkiness of flower petals and leaves. These activities have brought such joy to me over the years. It was much easier finding the time when I was a young girl. Now I am a wife, mother, and nurse. And though I am pleased and proud to be these things for other people who matter so greatly in my life, I've promised myself that I will always be true to the part of myself that also brings me joy-Artist, Gardener, Nature-lover. And my hope is to share that joy with you.......and for you to share your joy and your own personal life's garden with me.
